Audi Confirms Concept C Launch Despite Porsche EV Platform Uncertainty

Audi has reaffirmed its commitment to launching the production version of the Concept C in 2027, despite recent speculation surrounding the future of Porsche’s planned electric 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman. The confirmation came from Audi CEO Gernot Döllner, who addressed employee concerns in an internal letter reported by German publication Donaukurier.

Partnership Remains Secure

Döllner emphasized that the platform development partnership with Porsche is “not in question,” highlighting the ongoing “good collaboration” between the two Volkswagen Group brands. The new sports car, internally dubbed the C-Sport, was designed to share core components – including the drivetrain, battery, and chassis – with Porsche’s upcoming electric 718 models.

Porsche’s Review Sparked Doubt

The uncertainty stems from a recent change in leadership at Porsche, where Michael Leiters replaced Oliver Blume as CEO. Bloomberg reported that Leiters is considering canceling the electric 718 duo as part of broader cost-cutting measures, raising fears that Audi’s C-Sport could also be affected.

Audi Assures Employees

Döllner’s message serves as reassurance to Audi employees that the C-Sport remains on track, despite ongoing internal discussions about EV platforms and future model strategies within the Volkswagen Group.

Concept C: A Design Shift for Audi

The Concept C, previewed at the Munich motor show, represents a significant design departure for Audi. The 4.35-meter coupé features a modified version of the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, with a unique battery placement behind the driver to enable a lower seating position. This model is the first to be styled under Massimo Frascella, Audi’s new design chief, signaling a new era for the brand’s design language, including a revised front grille slated for future models.

The C-Sport is not just another EV; it’s a statement of Audi’s future design direction and commitment to innovation.

The decision to move forward with the Concept C is strategically important for Audi, as it signals the brand’s ongoing investment in electric sports cars, even amidst broader industry shifts and cost-cutting measures. The C-Sport’s launch in 2027 will be a key test of Audi’s ability to navigate the evolving EV landscape while maintaining its premium brand identity.
