Great Wall Motor (GWM) has released updates for its Tank 300 Hi4-T plug-in hybrid SUV, boosting performance and charging speed while maintaining its competitive price of approximately $35,350. The key improvement lies in the powertrain, where a new battery supplier and more powerful electric motor combine to deliver enhanced efficiency and capability.
Enhanced Powertrain Specs
The 2025 Tank 300 Hi4-T now features a 36.7 kWh lithium-ion battery supplied by CATL. This provides a WLTC-certified pure-electric range of 105 kilometers (65 miles), making it more practical for daily commutes and short off-road excursions. The electric motor’s output has been increased from 120 kW to 130 kW (174 hp) with peak torque rising to 495 N·m (365 lb-ft), up from 400 N·m (295 lb-ft).
Combined with the existing 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine (252 hp and 380 N·m), the hybrid system now produces a total of 310 kW (416 hp). Charging times have also been improved, with DC fast charging now taking just 0.27 hours (approximately 16 minutes) to go from 30% to 80%, down from 0.4 hours previously. AC charging remains at roughly 6.5 hours.
Rugged Design and Modern Interior
The Tank 300 Hi4-T retains its distinctive boxy SUV styling, including a bold rectangular grille, circular headlights, and a side-opening tailgate with a full-size spare tire. The interior is equipped with a 14.6-inch floating central touchscreen paired with a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster. Convenience features include dual 50W wireless charging pads, chrome trim, and physical controls for off-road functions like drive mode selection and differential locks.
Advanced driver assistance systems (L2 level) are standard, alongside auto LED headlights, a sunroof, auto wipers, heated front seats, rear AC vents, and a 360-degree camera system. The vehicle measures 4750 mm long, 1930 mm wide, and 1903 mm tall, with a 2750 mm wheelbase.
Sales Performance and Market Position
Between January and October 2025, GWM sold 24,254 units of the Tank 300 Hi4-T domestically. The Tank 300 range now includes petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid options. The updated Hi4-T model strengthens GWM’s position in the competitive off-road SUV market by offering a compelling combination of performance, range, and price.
The Tank 300 Hi4-T’s improvements demonstrate GWM’s commitment to delivering competitive PHEV technology at an accessible price point, potentially driving further growth in both domestic and international markets.
