Hyundai Staria and Staria Load: Hybrid and Electric Models Arrive in 2026-2027

Hyundai is expanding the Staria people mover and Staria Load commercial van lineups with hybrid and fully electric options, alongside existing diesel and petrol engines. The updated models, slated for release in Australia starting this month (April 2026) and extending into late 2027, also feature revised styling, updated tech, and adjusted pricing.

Powertrain Options and Rollout

The 2027 Staria will be available with petrol, diesel, and new hybrid powertrains. The Staria Load will offer diesel, hybrid, and a fully electric version. Diesel models are arriving now, with hybrids following in June 2026, and the electric Staria Load expected by the end of 2027. This staggered release allows Hyundai to gradually introduce new technologies while maintaining existing popular options.

Staria People Mover Updates

The base Staria model retains its $54,300 price tag for both diesel and petrol variants. The diesel now comes exclusively with front-wheel drive, while the petrol version is $3,800 more expensive. All models gain a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen, but lose the surround-view camera.

The discontinued Elite and Highlander trims are replaced by a new Lounge flagship, available only with the hybrid powertrain. The Staria Lounge hybrid combines a 1.6-liter turbo petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering 180kW and 304Nm of power. At $73,740, it’s the most expensive Staria variant. It includes features like Nappa leather seats, heated second-row seats, and digital key functionality.

Staria Load Commercial Van Changes

The Staria Load is now offered only in a two-seat configuration. The two trims – Load and Load Premium – will be available with diesel, hybrid, or electric powertrains. The base diesel starts at $49,990, while the hybrid ranges from $53,490 to $61,240. The electric Staria Load’s pricing remains unconfirmed.

The electric version features an 84kWh battery and a 160kW electric motor, offering a payload capacity of around 800kg and 4935L of cargo space. It also comes standard with advanced features like satellite navigation, a digital instrument cluster, and lane-keeping assist.

Why This Matters

Hyundai’s move to electrify and hybridize its Staria lineup is part of a broader industry trend towards cleaner, more efficient vehicles. The Staria, known for its spaciousness and versatility, now caters to buyers seeking eco-friendly options without compromising on practicality. The gradual rollout allows Hyundai to manage production, supply chains, and consumer adoption effectively. The shift from all-wheel drive to front-wheel drive on the base diesel model also indicates a strategy to simplify production and lower costs.

The inclusion of over-the-air software updates and connected car services suggests Hyundai is investing in long-term value and customer experience. These features ensure the vehicles remain up-to-date with the latest technology and security patches.

Hyundai is strategically positioning the Staria and Staria Load to compete in a rapidly evolving market, where electric and hybrid options are becoming increasingly desirable. The availability of multiple powertrains ensures the lineup can adapt to diverse customer needs and regulatory changes.
