Japanese Tuners Transform Toyota Prius Into Anime-Inspired Street Racer

1

The latest Toyota Prius has become a canvas for extreme vehicle modification, with Japanese tuners pushing the hybrid into radical new territory. A recent build unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon, a collaboration between lighting firm Crystal Eye and Body Shop Kikuta, showcases the car’s potential for aggressive styling. This project goes beyond typical aftermarket upgrades, transforming the Prius into a machine that appears straight out of a racing anime.

Radical Aesthetic Overhaul

The vehicle features a massive front splitter, reminiscent of heavy-duty snowplow equipment, paired with a heavily vented hood. Wide, aluminum fender extensions dominate the sides, overshadowing the 20-inch Work alloy wheels. At the rear, an enormous wing is bolted to the tailgate, flanked by blade-like angular fins and a pronounced diffuser. Custom hexagonal LED taillights, soon available for aftermarket purchase, complete the aggressive look.

The car’s lowered stance is achieved through an Air Rex Odin air suspension, allowing it to sit just millimeters above the road when stationary. This extreme modification gives the Prius an intimidating presence, embodying the bosozoku (Japanese street racing) aesthetic.

Show Car, Not Production Model

Despite its street-legal status, this Prius is a one-off showcase designed to highlight Crystal Eye’s lighting products and attract attention at car shows. It retains the factory engine – making up to 220 hp from the plug-in hybrid setup – though future performance upgrades, including engine swaps, remain a possibility.

The build’s transformation demonstrates the growing enthusiasm for tuning the latest Prius, which has already seen a significant design improvement over previous generations. While this particular version won’t enter production, it exemplifies the creative potential of the model within the aftermarket scene.

This Prius represents a bold departure from the hybrid’s practical image, proving it can be just as visually striking and aggressive as any traditional sports car.
