Nissan X-Trail Receives Rugged Update, Simplifies Engine Lineup

21

Nissan has refreshed its X-Trail SUV with a focus on outdoor appeal and a streamlined powertrain offering. The updated model, now available in the UK, features visual enhancements designed to attract buyers seeking a more adventurous style, alongside a reduction in engine options to a single hybrid system.

Exterior and Interior Enhancements

The most prominent change is the return of the N-Trek trim level – previously available in 2024 – which sits between the N-Connecta and Tekna grades. This trim boasts a bolder front fascia, aimed at customers who envision off-road use, such as “mountain biking trails or skiing trips,” according to Nissan.

Beyond the N-Trek, the standard X-Trail receives subtle cosmetic updates, including a revised front grille, lower bumpers, and new LED taillights. Two new exterior color options, Sukomo Blue and Coastal Dune, have also been added.

Inside, material quality has been improved, and the X-Trail continues to feature Google-based infotainment software, mirroring the setup in Nissan’s Qashqai model. The N-Trek trim specifically includes waterproof seat upholstery, rubber floor mats, and a reversible boot liner for enhanced durability.

Powertrain Simplification

Nissan has eliminated the 1.5-liter petrol mild-hybrid powertrain, making the X-Trail exclusively available with its ePower series-hybrid system. This system comes in two configurations: a 201-horsepower front-wheel-drive version and a 210-horsepower four-wheel-drive option.

This shift reflects a broader industry trend toward electrified powertrains, though it reduces consumer choice within the X-Trail lineup. The decision may be driven by emissions regulations and Nissan’s commitment to hybrid technology, but it limits options for buyers who prefer traditional gasoline engines.

Pricing and Availability

The updated X-Trail, offered with either five or seven seats, starts at £38,220. The N-Trek variant begins at £43,310. The Tekna+ trim level has been discontinued.

The updates position the X-Trail as a more rugged and focused offering within Nissan’s range, appealing to buyers prioritizing outdoor lifestyles while simplifying the purchasing process with a single hybrid powertrain.
