The Saic Z7, the next electric vehicle from HIMA’s Saic brand, is shaping up to be a standout competitor in the crowded EV market. New teaser images reveal a sleek, performance-focused design that openly draws inspiration from the Porsche Taycan, but with distinct features tailored for a younger audience.
Aggressive Front Design
The Z7’s front end is defined by a closed-off grille, dominated by an illuminated Saic logo. A large, trapezoidal air intake suggests advanced aerodynamics and cooling capabilities. The headlights, while reminiscent of the Taycan, have unique dot-matrix lighting with a dual-line upper arrangement and a longer strip below. Unlike some competitors, the Z7 maintains a longer hood, a deliberate choice to align with mainstream consumer tastes.
Aerodynamic Profile and Smart Tech
Along the sides, the Z7 showcases smooth lines with an estimated length of around 5000mm. Frameless side mirrors and a roof-mounted LiDAR unit further emphasize its aerodynamic focus. The LiDAR has been optimized for a smaller footprint, integrating seamlessly into the bodywork. A smart driving indicator light and semi-flush door handles add to the modern aesthetic.
Unique Rear Lighting
The rear of the Z7 features distinctive “Star River” taillights, previously exclusive to HIMA’s higher-end models like the Maextro S800. This design choice highlights Saic’s commitment to the Z7 and positions it as a key model in the HarmonyOS Smart Driving family. The decision to bring this feature to the 7-series is a strong signal of the vehicle’s importance within Saic’s lineup.
Targeted at Younger Buyers
The Saic Z7 prioritizes style, handling, and intelligent features over maximum interior space. This strategy is a clear indication that the car is targeted at a younger demographic willing to trade practicality for aesthetic appeal and driving experience. With a projected price of around 200,000 yuan (under $30,000 USD), the Z7 is positioned as the most affordable model within the HIMA family.
The Saic Z7 is emerging as a compelling EV option for drivers who prioritize design and performance. By borrowing cues from established luxury brands like Porsche while maintaining a competitive price point, Saic is poised to capture a significant share of the youth-driven EV market.
