Xiaomi has officially ceased production of its first-generation SU7 electric vehicle after selling over 380,000 units in under two years, marking a significant milestone for the tech giant’s entry into the automotive market. The final unit, an olive-green model, was shipped to a customer in Xi’an on February 10th, according to Xiaomi founder Lei Jun.
Rapid Success in a Competitive Market
The SU7, which began deliveries in April 2024, quickly became a dominant force in China’s electric vehicle sector. Xiaomi reported over 381,000 total deliveries by the end of 2025, including approximately 130,000 units in the first nine months of 2024 and another 258,000 units throughout the following year. The vehicle’s success is notable because it outsold the Tesla Model 3 in China—a first for any electric vehicle in the region.
Price, Performance, and Ecosystem Synergy
The SU7’s popularity stems from a combination of factors. Strategic pricing, competitive specifications, and strong integration with Xiaomi’s existing ecosystem of tech products and services appealed to a broad customer base. The vehicle became the sales leader in the premium sedan segment in 2025, exceeding all sedans priced above 200,000 yuan (approximately $28,700 USD), including both EV and gasoline-powered models.
Transition to Next-Generation Model
Xiaomi is now shifting focus to the second-generation SU7, scheduled for official launch in April 2026. Pre-sale prices will range from 229,900 to 309,900 yuan ($32,800 to $44,300 USD). Lei Jun confirmed the new model will feature comprehensive upgrades to design, specifications, and powertrain, making it a significant evolution from the original.
Showroom Availability and Customer Experience
Potential customers can already experience the new SU7 firsthand. Display vehicles have begun arriving at dealerships, with demonstration models available in flagship stores across major Chinese cities starting February 13th. This allows customers to place orders during the transition period between generations.
The speed at which Xiaomi has disrupted the EV market with the SU7 is a testament to their ability to leverage consumer electronics expertise into automotive design and manufacturing.
The end of the first-generation SU7’s production marks not just the closure of one chapter, but also the acceleration of Xiaomi’s long-term ambition in the automotive sector.
