Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 Confirmed: Ultra-Exclusive 646-HP Coupe Arriving Soon

12

Mercedes-AMG is preparing to launch an exceptionally rare high-performance coupe, the CLE 63, with a reported 646 horsepower. The model will be limited to just 30 units worldwide, making it even more exclusive than previous limited-run AMG vehicles. This announcement comes as part of a broader preview of future Mercedes models revealed to dealers in Germany.

Upcoming AMG Models

Beyond the CLE 63, Mercedes showcased several other key developments:

  • AMG G63 Cabriolet: A four-door convertible G-Class variant with an electric retractable roof, slated for production in Q3 2027 with U.S. availability in 2028.
  • New AMG GT Black Series: A more powerful, likely two-seater iteration of the AMG GT Coupe, expected to exceed the current GT 63 Pro’s 603 horsepower.
  • Electric AMG Expansion: Three new electric AMG models are in development, including a successor to the 4-Door GT Coupe (launching early next year), an SUV variant (late 2027), and a coupe-styled derivative (near the end of 2028).

CLE 63 Details and Engine Choice

The CLE 63 is anticipated to be powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine, offering a substantial 203-horsepower increase over the existing CLE 53. While Mercedes initially considered a four-cylinder plug-in hybrid setup (similar to the C63), customer feedback may have led to the decision to retain the V8. The CLE 63 is unlikely to be a plug-in hybrid, with the combustion engine handling the bulk of the power. Expect a price exceeding $100,000, given the CLE 53 already starts near $80,000.

E-Class and EQE Updates

Mercedes also previewed the next-generation E-Class, set to arrive in early 2028 as an all-electric model, with gas and plug-in hybrid options following later. The company may discontinue the EQE model as early as this year to streamline its electric lineup. A new E-Class wagon is also in development.

Mercedes has not officially confirmed these details, but industry reports from Automotive News and Autocar suggest these plans are firm. The company’s commitment to both high-performance combustion engines and an expanding EV portfolio reflects a strategy to cater to diverse consumer preferences amid tightening emissions regulations worldwide.

Mercedes-AMG is positioning itself to meet both enthusiast demands for powerful V8 engines and regulatory requirements for electric vehicles, ensuring a comprehensive lineup for years to come.
