Omoda 5 at £204/month

The small car that bites back

We talked up the Omoda 7 last week. Swoopy. Great value. Now the smaller sibling is here, and it might make you wonder if that larger car was actually worth the extra cash.

It’s a threat.

This specific deal comes through Leasing Options on Auto Express. A two-year lease. You put down £2,641 upfront for the first year. Then £203 a month follows.

That mileage is capped tightly. Just 5,000 miles a year.

Do you drive less than that?

If not, the math gets weird fast. Jump to 8,00 miles and you’re paying £40 or £50 more per month. No matter which initial payment option you pick, low mileage is the sweet spot here.

Tinker with the upfront cost

You can change the starting payment if the lump sum scares you.

Switch to a nine-month upfront term. You save £900 right then and there. The monthly hit rises to £203.84. Barely a change. Or go shorter. Six months upfront. Pay £1,785 and you’ll be hit with £231 a month.

Do what makes the wallet hurt less initially. But stick to the low mileage if you can.

This deal is for the hybrid. Not the boring entry-level petrol box.

What’s inside

You get the Knight trim. Sounds like a medieval warrior but it’s actually pretty packed.

  • Twin 12.3-inch displays
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay
  • Wireless Android Auto
  • Six-way electric driver’s seat
  • Heated front seats
  • Rear-view camera with dynamic lines

The screen setup is dominant. Good for maps. Good for distraction.

It drives decent

The powertrain is a full hybrid setup. 1.5-litre engine. Electric motor. Small battery (1.83kWh). It doesn’t work like a Plug-in Hybrid. It works more like Toyota’s system.

The petrol engine keeps the battery fed. You aren’t getting long electric runs. You get efficiency.

They claim 52.2 mpg.

Omoda fixed a lot of early kinks since this car launched in Britain. The ride is better now. It eats up potholes in the city without screaming about it. Is it sharper than a Kia Sportage or a Ford Kuga?

No. Those two are sharper.

But the Omoda handles twisty roads with enough confidence. It’s not a sports car. It’s a competent daily driver that doesn’t punish you for existing.

The deal lives on the Auto Express service. Prices shift. Stock disappears. Terms change. If this specific offer vanishes, check their other listings for the Omoda 5.

There are plenty of providers out there. But this price point for this kit…

It’s hard to argue with.
