GWM’s sub-brand Ora is sharpening its image with new Ora 5 GT and Ora 5 Sport trims. The teasers show two distinct directions for the popular crossover. One adds a roof and calipers. The other goes all-in on aerodynamics.
Pricing remains a mystery for now. But the base model already starts at 69,800 Yuan in China. That is roughly 10,200 USD. For that money, you get choices.
Sport vs GT: What is the difference?
The Ora 5 Sport trim keeps things subtle. The main visual change is a two-tone paint job. Think a white roof on a darker body. You will also spot red brake calipers and larger wheels. A roof-mounted LiDAR unit is present. This tech is currently exclusive to EV versions in China.
The GT trim is louder. Visually speaking.
It features an aggressive body kit. That includes a front splitter. A rear spoiler sticks out. Side skirts lower the profile. Red accents hit the headlights, brakes, and aero bits. The teaser suggests this is an EV model too, thanks to the visible charge port on the front fender.
Here is the catch. GWM isn’t talking about hardware changes.
We do not know if these trims get horsepower boosts. Handling tweaks are unclear too. They might be purely cosmetic.
This follows a pattern seen with the Funky Cat (also called the Good Cat or Ora 3). That GT trim adds splitters and spoilers. But it offers no power or chassis upgrades over the standard top trim.
The Ora 5 Sport and GT appear to be style-focused updates, mirroring the approach taken with the Funky Cat GT.
Powertrain options: EV, HEV, and ICE
The Ora 5 lineup is broad. It covers electric, hybrid, and petrol.
Electric models use a 150 kW (211 hp) front motor. Battery options come from GWM’s SVOLT partner.
* 45.3 kWh pack: 480 km CLTC range.
* 58.3 kWh pack: 580 km CLTC range.
ICE versions rely on a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with variable geometry. It pushes 135 kW (180 hp). Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
* 0-100 km/h: 8.9 seconds.
* Top speed: 190 km/h.
* Fuel economy: 6.4 L/10km WLTC.
HEV trims mix a 1.5-liter turbo (115 kW) with a 140 kW electric motor. The combined output hits 166 kW (219 hp). A 2-speed dedicated hybrid transmission manages the flow.
* 0-100 km/h: 7.7 seconds.
* Top speed: 185 km/h.
* Fuel economy: 4.5 L/10km WLTC.
It remains unknown if the new Sport and GT trims apply to the ICE and HEV powertrains.
Tech and Dimensions
This is GWM’s first car to feature Coffee Pilot 3 OS. The latest Level 2 assisted-driving system adds navigation on autopilot. The system can navigate up to 3 km inside multi-story parking garages.
LiDAR is another headline. GWM claims the Ora 5 will be the cheapest LiDAR-equipped vehicle in China. The unit is optional. Non-EV models in China currently lack it. But overseas markets might get it. Rivals like Chery already push heavy LiDAR on exports.
For those wondering about size, the numbers are specific.
* Length: 4,471 mm
* Width: 1,833 mm
* Height: 1,641 mm
* Wheelbase: 2,720 mm
Curb weight sits between 1,440 kg and 1,665 kg depending on the trim. Suspension is McPherson struts up front. Multi-link setup at the rear.
Market performance
Sales data offers some context. China EV DataTracker reports the EV variant sold 2,789 units in June 2026*. The total lineup hasn’t cracked 5,000 monthly sales since its December 2025 debut.
Will the new trims change that? The addition of GT and Sport styles, along with the recent ICE/HEV launch, could boost desirability. Or they might just give existing owners more reasons to customize.
We will have to wait for the official launch. And the prices. Until then, we just have red brake calipers and spoilers to look at.
