Most adjusters would have totaled this M3 Competition on sight. One guy in Germany saw opportunity. He ran under the handle s55_M2 and posted clips instead of long videos. The driver’s side was crushed. Chassis gone. Useless to everyone else.
A new shell is expensive. So is pride.
He didn’t quit. He sourced a whole new chassis straight from BMW. It is rare. Hard work follows. Salvaging parts from the wreck. Moving them over.
The eight-speed transmission survived. The engine did too. He dropped them in. Wiring harness went. Some exterior panels made the trip. Interior? Mostly saved. Presumably. The car wasn’t just fixed. It was resurrected.
Should you do this?
Only if you are insane or very talented. Garage builds scare off normal people. This costs almost nothing compared to new. Or used. Even crashed ones have value.
He said he spent “almost” $20k when asked. That covers the new shell. The wreck was bought for pennies. Maybe the cheapest G80 key ring in existence.
Will you trade a wreck for a shell? You tell me.
