The standard Renault 5 is fun. The Alpine A290 adds punch. But some drivers aren’t done.
They want more width. More anger. Something closer to the 1980s.
Milltek, a UK tuner, just unveiled a solution. A widebody kit that looks like it stepped off the tarmac of a Group B rally stage in 1985. Specifically, it channels the spirit of the R5 Maxi Turbo.
It fits both cars. That’s the first twist.
The kit works on the base Renault 5 E-Tech. It also fits the sportier Alpine A290. However, there are exceptions. Those rally-style daytime running lights? Alpine only. The bumpers differ. So the lights can’t go everywhere.
What you actually get:
- Massive front and rear fender flares with vents.
- A cutout for the charging port built right in.
- Front bumper extensions that sharpen the look.
- Rear door add-ons with fake air intakes.
- Aluminum trim along the skirts.
- A bigger roof spoiler.
Does it add power?
No. The chassis remains stock. The electric motors stay untouched. You still have 148 horsepower in the Renault or 215 in the Alpine. The photos show aftermarket wheels though. That stance sells the idea.
The clever part isn’t the aesthetics. It’s the installation.
Milltek says this is reversible. No cutting. No permanent damage to the body. They use “localized removable bonding” to stick these ABS parts on. It peels off. Clean. Easy.
Why buy it if you can’t sell the car as stock?
Because sometimes you want the look for the weekend. Or the show.
They showed a prototype at Goodwood. Production is imminent. First runs ship this autumn.
Pricing starts at £2,001. Roughly $2,700 before tax. If that feels heavy, buy pieces separately. Just the fenders. Maybe just the spoiler.
“Fitment doesn’t require any cutting.”
It’s plastic on metal. Temporary rage for an EV that doesn’t really need it.
Do we need another way to dress up a small city car? Maybe.
Milltek will ship when they’re ready.
