Peugeot’s all-electric range: E-408 debut and E-308 SW early access

The Peugeot stand at the Mondial de l’Auto is completely dedicated to the brand’s entire range of electric portfolio. These models include the E-208, E-308, E-408, E-2008, E-3008 and E-5008. With these models, the lion manufacturer sharpens its environmental claws and announces that it is ready for 100% electric era.

Brand director Linda Jackson has no doubts. Peugeot will reach its net zero emissions target in 2035. She sees this as a personal mission, not just compliance.

“We’re not doing this just because the law forces us to do it. This is a deep moral and social commitment, and this auto show is our chance to prove it.”

To commemorate the event, each car on display has a unique blue, white and red camouflage wrap.

The title is E-408. This is its public debut. The power comes from a 210 horsepower electric motor and a 58.2 kilowatt-hour battery. The range is 450 kilometers. This figure lags behind some competitors in the sedan segment. But it is still better than E-308. The E-308 is equipped with a 156 horsepower engine and has a range of 416 kilometers.

There is another twist. E-308 appears as a station wagon. This SW version is a world first for this model.

In France, the small SUV segment is dominated by the E-2008, which is still the brand’s best-selling electric model. But it’s not the most long-range option. It is equipped with a 156 horsepower engine and has a range of 406 kilometers. If you need flexibility, you can also choose a hybrid version.

But the true range champion of the current lineup is the E-3008.

As standard, the all-electric version has a range of about 530 kilometers with 210 horsepower, but the Long Range (LR) version completely changes the game. This increases the autonomy to almost 700 km. This is a big leap forward. The LR model pairs that range with a 230-horsepower output.

Also adding 320 Dual Motor AWD as a future performance option.

This model has four-wheel drive and a total of 320 horsepower. Designed for drivers who want traction without compromising Peugeot’s renowned electric efficiency.

7-seater E-5008

Families of five or more need special space. The E-5008 solves this problem with 7 seats.

It has the same drivetrain DNA as the E-3008, but pays a penalty for the extra size and seating. The standard distance drops to 502 kilometers. However, the Long Range version still manages 668 kilometers.

It’s a compromise between practicality and maximum distance. If you need a third row, the E-5008 range can compete with other large electric SUVs.

Inception Concept and Ultra Square steering wheel

Peugeot does not only present production cars in the stands. They unveiled the Inception Concept, a vehicle that feels like it belongs in another decade.

The interior is spacious and futuristic. Doors open in an antagonistic fashion, which adds to the sci-fi aesthetic. Under the hood is a 100 kWh battery with a range of 800 km.

But the most important feature is not the battery. This is the steering wheel.

Peugeot calls this the i-Cockpit with a Hypersquare steering wheel. This is not a circle. It’s a rectangle.

This is not just a design trick. The transmission of the control input is digital and not mechanical. The car interprets your hand movements and converts them into digital signals.

Visually, it is impressive. In reality, it’s a learning curve.

Good news for the doubters. the stand offers simulators. You can test the Hypersquare wheel yourself.

Is the square wheel intuitive? Or is this just another step towards a fully digital cockpit with no physical feedback?

This concept car shows where Peugeot is going. Mechanical connections are reduced and digital integration is improved. Production cars like the E-3008 and E-5008 were already a reality. The Inception Concept was a distant horizon.

Both have the same electric backbone. Both rely on efficient batteries. However, only one has a steering wheel that defies geometry
